At the Bellini Theater in Naples a show is staged on Telemachus 'journey in search of his father and on Odysseus' return to Ithaca, revisited by Emma Dante
From 8 to 13 November 2016 the talented Sicilian director Emma Dante will be back in Naples, at the Bellini Theater, with his latest creation "A / r Odyssey". A choral show, set up with the 23 young professionals of the School of the Performing Arts Crafts of the Teatro Biondo of Palermo, during his experience as director.
Once again to inspire Emma Dante is the classical mythology, as happened two years ago with "Me, Nobody and Polyphemus". The show "A / r Odyssey"instead, it starts from Telemachia, the journey of Telemachus in search of his father, passing through the events of the Proci who occupy the royal palace of Ithaca, longing to marry Penelope and finally take possession of the Kingdom and reach the return of Odysseus to their homeland.
Through the fantastic evocations of Emma Dante, the myth is revisited and reread in a new key, to enhance the human component of the characters and to reflect on the condition of the man-hero, who proves to be small and a liar.
Like the same Emma Dante he was able to comment: "Odyssey a / r is the journey that every human being makes in the course of life. It is the poem that has allowed us to question ourselves on the paths that mark destiny, where the engine of everything is the movement towards one's own origin. After twenty years, Odysseus returns to Ithaca and the meeting between father and son allows us to witness the humanization of the myth. Of Odysseus, Penelope and Telemachus we will discover the most tender and fragile sides, their defects, their imperfections. A mother and a son waited a long time for the return of the myth and, while waiting, they changed their nature ».
