Finale di Partita, Beckett on stage at the Teatro San Ferdinando

Lello Arena staged at the San Ferdinando Theater in Naples in the "Neapolitan" version of "Finale di Gioco", directed by Lluìs Pasqual

Al San Ferdinando Theater will go on stage Match Final, one of the best known plays of Samuel Beckett. Written in 1955 by the famous Irish playwright, the piece has all the characteristics of the “theater of the absurd” genre, which includes all Beckettian works.

Directing the "Neapolitan" version of Match Final represented at the San Ferdinando Theater after last year's debut at the Naples Theater Festival, the Spanish Lluís Pasqual. On stage atmospheres, colors and language are those of the Neapolitan culture and, to interpret the roles of the protagonists, they are Lello Arena e Stefano Miglio.

In a context of post-atomic desolation we are witnessing a motionless and distressing situation, far from any spatial and temporal coordinate. Hamm is blind and paralyzed and does nothing but give absurd orders to Clov who, on the contrary, cannot sit down and constantly threatens to leave.

Instead, they are reduced to human trunks that vegetate inside two bins, Hamm's parents - Nagg and Nell. The existence of the characters is dragged into a small house by the sea, despite the dialogues suggesting that in reality nothing exists outside the house, neither sea, nor sun, nor clouds.

"As I am convinced that the Neapolitan school of interpretation, together with the Russian and English schools, are the three pillars of European theatrical interpretation, and that the Neapolitan people and therefore their actors and spectators, practice in their lives of all days this distance that bestows humor and irony in the face of existence, makes me very happy to wear a Neapolitan dress at the Final Match. I'm sure the bird of prey-eyed philosopher-writer would be very happy with this meeting. Just as I am! ”.
