The Capodimonte Museum on display in the Louvre in Paris
For the first time in its history, Louvre of Paris dedicates an exhibition to another museum, celebrating the Museum of Capodimonte and the city of Naples. This exhibition, supported by theHigh Patronage of the Italian Republic and French Republic, represents the main event of cultural diplomacy of 2023 and will be active from June 7, 2023 to January 8, 2024.
Both museums, the Louvre and Capodimonte, are royal palaces transformed into custodians of legacy collections by the greatest sovereigns and symbols of the historical ties between Italy and France.
Since June, the Louvre Museum has been inviting the @museoboscocapodimonte. Almost sixty of the Neapolitan museum's greatest masterpieces will be exhibited in three different places in the Louvre: the Grande Galerie, the Salle de la Chapelle and the Salle de l'Horloge.
A dialogue between masterpieces in the different spaces of the Louvre
For six months, the main masterpieces of the Capodimonte Museum they will leave Naples to dialogue with the works of the Louvre in three different spaces:
- In Grand Gallery, a spectacular confrontation will take place between the two collections of Italian paintings among the most important in the world.
- In chapel hall, the origins and diversity of the Capodimonte, Farnese and Bourbon collections will be explored.
- Finally, in the clock room, four masterpieces of drawings from the ancient Farnese collection will be exhibited, including the autograph cartoon of Michelangelo and that of Raphael and his collaborators, in dialogue with the drawings of Raphael and his pupils kept in the Louvre.
A "Neapolitan season" in Paris
This celebration will be enriched with a real one “Neapolitan season” in Paris, offering a cultural program full of cinema, music and literature.
The event is made possible thanks to the support of Campania region and POC funds, as well as generous contributions from important Neapolitan patrons through the purchase and restoration of works of art, frames and other historical material.
During the exhibition, the masterpieces transferred to the Louvre will be replaced with other works belonging to the collections of Museum of Capodimonte.
