Updated: The Pizza Village will officially take place at the Mostra d'Oltremare
The famous Pizza Village greet the Lungomare of via Caracciolo and prepares to move to Virgilian Park in Posillipo for the edition 2023. The historic event, born in Naples in 2011, had attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors, but also the criticisms of restaurateurs and pizzerias in via Partenope.
The Mayor Gaetano Manfredi had expressed his contrariness to maintain the location of the Lungomare, preferring a transfer in other districts of the city, provoking the reaction of the organizers who threatened to leave Naples.
The Municipality approves the Virgiliano Park
After evaluating various alternatives proposed by the Municipality, such as the Mostra d'Oltremare and Scampia, the organizers of the Pizza Village they opted for the Virgilian Park. The Municipality has given its consent to this choice, but it is still necessary authorization of Soprintendenza dei Beni Culturali. The official announcement of the new location will likely be released next week.
Past editions and the commitment to eco-sustainability
Previous editions of the Naples Pizza Village they have received great success, with thousands of visitors and families especially in 2018 and 2019, when over one million visitors were registered. After a break due to Covid, the demonstration resumed with renewed impetus, engaging in the battle for theenvironmental sustainability.
The former de Magistris administration had taken measures “plastic free” during the event, promoting the use of eco-cutlery kits and bio-packaging biodegradable and compostable. Because the Pizza Village doesn't take place on the Naples waterfront
The Pizza Village Naples 2023 it will not be held on the waterfront, but it will be moved. The reason for that decision lies in the will of the City of Naples to avoid traffic and public order problems ljoin the event. Furthermore, the Municipality has accepted the protests of the restaurateurs of the waterfront, who had expressed their dissatisfaction with the event in the past.
The choice to move the Pizza Village entails give up the claim of "largest pizzeria on the sea". Despite the critical, Pizza Village's move is not considered a tragedy, but rather an opportunity to renew the event and focus on promoting pizza and its tradition.
