"The Great War. Society, propaganda and consent”Is the exhibition dedicated to the First World War set up in the halls of Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano of Naples up to 23 August 2015.

The exhibition was prepared on the occasion of the events for the anniversary of the centenary of the First World War organized in Europe and also in conjunction with Expo 2015 and provides for the setting up of three exhibitions, in Milan, Florence and Naples.

Propaganda

It is a large project that in each city includes a different stage. Inside the Galleria d'Italia, the Neapolitan museum of Intesa Sanpaolo, the exhibition focuses on role of propaganda during the war and the social response is analyzed. Rather than delving into the chronological account of individual war events, he wants to study the reactions, far from the front, of the population called to arms or warned of the dangers of war or even invited to provide economic support, awareness of an angry and outraged country, but also proud and eager for redemption.

The poster

"The Great War" consists of 80 works by Italian and European artists that have contributed to giving life to the phenomenon of mass communication with what from that moment would become an innovative and fundamental communication tool: the poster.
The multimedia and musical set-up tells the evolution of this communication tool and how it managed to convey the feelings of an entire people and the perception they had of war.

We will be able to observe the works of artists of the time such as Marcello Dudovich, Achille Luciano Mauzan and Duilio Cambellotti and a comparison with i foreign posters.

War in music and cinema

The exhibition is enriched by graphic projections taken from period magazines and newspapers and by musical pieces that testify how deeply the theme of war have been also treated in songs, both popular and author.
Finally, the film sector is also analyzed with an overview of the new language adopted by the cinema from the beginning of the twentieth century.
