La Notte della Tammorra, festival of music and popular culture directed by Carlo Faiello, returns to Naples on 9 September 2014
Back to Naples the 9 September 2014 the now famous Night of Tammorra, Festival of music and popular culture which this year reaches its XIV edition. The kermesse will be directed, as every year, by the Neapolitan composer Carlo Faiello and will be curated by Il Canto di Virgilio, with the aim of immersing citizens and visitors in the sounds of popular tradition. The Festival is dedicated to the protection of intangible heritage and the defense of popular culture.
For this edition the Night of Tammorra It will be included in the celebrations of the Piedigrotta Festival and in the rich programming of Imago Mundi: Feasts and Saints of the city of Naples, in turn part of the calendar of Summer in Naples.
Tuesday 9 September 2014, from 21: 00 to 23: 45, In 'Pedestrian Island of via Galliani in Piedigrotta, an evening of music, dance and song will be held with the aim of demonstrating the deep and symbolic link between tradition and innovation, aimed at welcoming and confronting the bearers of tradition, the builders of memory, as artisans, musicians, associations and representatives of local communities in Campania (and beyond) - who will offer the local public and tourists a unique opportunity to testify in favor of the value and importance of safeguarding the cultural heritage of our land.
During the Night of Tammorra will alternate ancestral sounds produced by acoustic instruments gone into disuse and which are forcefully back in the limelight as bagpipes and flying guitars, ciaramelle and castanets and, obviously, tammorre. Participants will be involved in tarantella and ballarelle, tammurriate and tarts tarantate, saltarelli and songs to expanse, giving space to the unusual sound forms of young musicians who, using the archetypes of folk art, offer new ideas for contemporary music.
The artists who will perform during the event The Night of Tammorra, they will remember the memory of Riccardo Esposito Abbot, known as “Zi 'Riccardo”, founder of the folk group “Zi' Riccardo and the Women of Tammorra”.
