Le Jardin, the secret garden of Castel Sant'Elmo opens to the public

A secret garden on the top of Castel Sant'Elmo hitherto inaccessible will be revealed to the public thanks to the artwork "Le Jardin"

Not everyone knows that on top of Castel Sant'Elmo, the fortress located on the hill of Vomero, there is a small and charming "ruin" abandoned for years, immersed in an enclosure of green open sky. A kind of "secret Garden", which will be revealed to the public in a few days thanks to a Franco-Italian collective of architects, curators, designers and craftsmen, winner of the 2013 edition of the competition An Opera for the Castle.

Le Jardin, this is the name of the extraordinary work of art and architecture, born from the desire to reconquer the ancient outpost of the Monumental Complex of Castel Sant'Elmo in Naples. The project consists of one ladder (about 5 meters) that finally manages to arrive, through a gap in the tuff, at the top of the castle, allowing visitors to admire the beautiful secret garden, until now inaccessible.

Through the work, the space is reactivated, allowing access to the panoramic terraces that rise on top of the structure, where the vegetation, which has grown freely over the years, has given life to a spontaneous garden. Born in 2013, Le Jardin it is an open place that is realized through voluntary and collective work.

The finished work is thus configured as a space to be covered, a duration to be experienced, an opening towards discussion and the relationship between individuals: between those who have created it and those who will discover it thanks to its new opening. The perception of Le Jardin it takes place through the body and the experience that the body makes of the work: it is only by going along the stairs and inhabiting the garden that is understood and internalized.

4th October from 12.00 to 18.00
11 October from 12.00 to 18.00

The visit is free and reservation is not required.

For parteciapre, instead of other events and workshops, reservation is required, by sending an email to info@lejardin-napoli.com specifying, in the subject, the title of the workshop and the names of the participants. The workshops are open to a maximum of 20 people.
