Plastic-eating machines in Naples: how to get ecopoints

A green initiative in Naples, and specifically in Sorrento, marks the arrival of special plastic-eating machines. This first eco-compactor is located in the Achille Lauro municipal parking lot and was installed by the Municipality of Sorrento in collaboration with Penisola Verde and the Coripet consortium.

As explained by the president of the city council, Luigi Di Prisco , the use of this eco-compactor will lead to the sorting of PET bottles , reducing their volume and thus encouraging their recycling . In this way, it will contribute to separate waste collection and reduce the production of plastic waste.

How to contribute to the initiative

To contribute to the initiative, simply download the Coripet app to your smartphone and complete the registration. You'll then need to go to the recycling center and scan the barcode in the app. A door will open where you can drop off your bottles.

Specifically, the latter must be empty, not crushed, with the label intact and bearing the PET symbol . For each bottle inserted, you will earn one ecopoint. Once you have collected 200 ecopoints, you can go to the Ambiente counter, also near the machine, and receive a €3 voucher that you can spend, with a minimum purchase of €30, at participating businesses.

The ultimate goal is to collect at least 77% of the PET bottles placed on the market by 2025 and 90% by 2030.
