The theme of the Luci d'Artista 2013 event in Salerno will be "Spring Snow", among flowers, cherry trees, sea depths, penguins and a huge "Spring" by Botticelli
In the magnificent city of Salerno the Christmas atmosphere is already felt, thanks to the splendid light installations that for eight years, during the Christmas period, decorate streets, avenues, squares, monuments, palaces and gardens. The appointment with the event Luci d'Artista for the '2013 / 2014 edition November 1 has already begun and will last until 19 January 2014.
This year the luminous path through the streets of Salerno will be 30 km, three kilometers longer than in previous years and there will be several news for those who will visit the city to admire the masterpieces of the "artists of light".
Spring snow
The theme of this eighth edition is titled Spring snow - Flowers, stars and myth which, in addition to recalling the classic idea of winter among sleds, reindeer, "fathers" and Christmas trees and snowflakes, will make the lighting arrangement throughout the city more "floral" and will find its culmination in the light installation of piazza Flavio Gioia, completely dedicated to the work of Sandro Botticelli Spring. Here you can admire The Renaissance spring, which amidst waterfalls of flowers and twigs of branches will be a tribute to the woman, with the representation of three female figures another seven meters. A real one triumph of Spring over Winter, symbol of hope in rebirth, which the mayor Vincenzo De Luca has commented as follows:
«We dedicate this representation to all the women of Salerno and Italy. It is an image of great beauty and harmony. From Salerno we send a message of hope and positivity. While all over Italy there is anxiety and depression, due to the crisis affecting commercial activities and beyond, we register a full house in hotels. We create economy and work ».
The sea depths
Another novelty concerns the area of Enchanted Garden set up inside the Villa Comunale, which from this year in addition to hosting butterflies, snails, swans, owls, trees and bright flowers, will begin a "Descent" towards the sea depths. With shimmering installations that represent the people of the "deep blue", like crabs, jellyfish, corals, which will also be repeated in the future.
Penguins on the rocks
For the first time, a luminous work of art will be installed on the cliff of Lungomare Trieste, where it will be represented Antartide, at the height of the luminous fountain in the sea. On the rocks there will be beautiful and very funny Penguins just emerged from the water, and others about to dive back. The South Pole which finds a small corner of space in the Mediterranean Sea of the Salerno Gulf.
Other illuminations and attractions
The suggestive oriental atmosphere will return to Piazza Sant'Agostino, with lanterns and a huge one bright dragon; in via dei Mercanti and in the neighboring streets of the old center the i flying carpets suspended. Many cherry trees bright they will be scattered here and there in various points of the center, such as in Piazza Sant'Agostino and in via Mercanti, to recall the theme of this year's spring. On the waterfront, gods will be set up Christmas markets.
Luci d'Artista it will once again be an event that will do good to the image of the city but above all to the , as stated by the mayor Vincenzo De Luca during the inauguration which took place on Friday 1 November at 17 pm, in the presence of the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi.
“Luci d'Artista has now become a cultural and economic event of national and international importance. Cruise ships have extended the season until December to allow tourists to visit the city during this time. We have requests for twinning from Brussels and Venice. And again, also this year for the occasion Trenitalia has enhanced the Frecciarossa races from Milan to Salerno. Hotels and b & b, in the city and in the province, are already sold out. We also expect 20 national tour operators during the inaugural weekend, which will promote the event and the city of Salerno in Italy and abroad ”.
