The Maggio dei Monumenti 2014 reaches its twentieth edition and will be the first event funded by the Universal Forum of Cultures. The main theme will be the "Neapolitan stories and legends" by Benedetto Croce

There is now little time left at the beginning of May and, consequently, at the beginning of May of the 2014 Monuments (read the complete program), the cultural review that every year makes us protagonists and tourists of our city, making us rediscover and appreciate all the artistic heritage that surrounds us.

The official program is not yet known, but in the meantime we can talk about some advances. This year we have reached the important milestone of the twentieth edition and, for the occasion, the exhibition will be the first major event organized and financed by the Universal Forum of Cultures.

In fact, the basic theme will be Knowledge, one of the five thematic axes of the Universal Forum of Cultures, and the Fil rouge will be "Neapolitan stories and legends“, A title that is inspired by the homonymous writing by Benedetto Croce. The purpose is to operate "An exploration of the historical experience of Naples, of the collective imagination of the city and of its European and Mediterranean historical roots."

In fact, this year the municipal administration wants to focus not only on the beauty and value of the individual monuments of our city, but also on the external and internal history of them, on the daily life which has continued over the centuries and on the main ones historical events connected to them.

The history and soul for May of the 2014 Monuments in Naples

This twentieth edition of the May of the Monuments will start the 1 May 2014 and will end the 1 June 2014, but the initiatives to be held within the Forum of Cultures will last until June 30. As mentioned, Benedetto Croce will be a constant presence throughout the event and the venue for the edition will be the Italian Institute for Historical Studies, the National Library "Vittorio Emanuele III", the Neapolitan Society of Homeland History, the Pontanian Academy, the National Society of Sciences, Letters and Arts, the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies, the Naples Award Foundation, the “Anton Dohrn.

They will be associated with them eight artistic-literary paths Crocean, tourist-cultural itineraries always inspired by the work of Benedetto Croce and which will unfold over the five weekends involved.
The Napoli 99 Foundation will carry out an "adoption" program with the initiative "The school adopts a monument“, Which will see the local schools as protagonists who will organize numerous cultural animation activities.

One of the novelties of this 2014 edition will be the extension of the events also to the municipalities of Boscoreale e Castellammare di Stabia, both bearers of their own program and who will participate with the extraordinary opening of monuments. Furthermore, the entire promotional campaign was entrusted to the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, who created acaptivating graphic line and a new graphic-audiovisual project (the video is at the end of the article).

Exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, lessons, dialogues, readings, shows, conferences, sports, theater will, as always, form the classic part of the Maggio.
Furthermore, the themes will be presented spettacolarizzabili: reading a novel Basile pentamerone with Enzo Moscato (who will also interpret one of the sermons of a great 600th century Jesuit preacher studied by Croce himself, Giacomo Lubrano); there legend of Colapesce; an imaginary from Don Giovanni by Tirso De Molina, that few know how to have had the first representation in Naples, curated by Sonia Bergamasco.
