Mann of Naples: 400 exhibits from the museum will be digitized in 3D
On Monday 12 September 2022 at 17:00 at the MANN auditorium, the Archaeological Museum of Naples, a meeting will be held that will cover the beautiful project From the Metaverse to the MetaMuseum.
It is a project of 3D digitization of over 400 exhibits from the deposits which is part of the initiative promoted online with the Luddy School of Informatics of the University of Indiana.
The meeting can also be followed online as it will be broadcast live on Facebook on institutional page of the Museum, so that everyone can know the details.
The program of the new project
The project for the realization of the MetaMuseo will take place thanks to Cristiana Barandoni, or Principal Investigator for the MANN and creator of the MetaMuseo, who together with Floriana Miele, an archaeologist official of the MANN, will select from the deposits of the Museum of Naples the 400 finds which will thus be digitized, each divided by type of materials and contexts.
Subsequently we will move on to the process of 3D production which provides for the following:
- each work will be acquired as an image, this will serve to create three-dimensional point clouds that will represent a sampling of the surface of the find;
- this will produce a surface model, the mesh model, or a set of polygons that will form the shape of the object as a whole;
- finally, there will be the transition to textured mesh.
In short, a very interesting and useful initiative that will allow young people and students to visit the Museum in an alternative way, as well as to protect and protect the submerged heritage of the MANN composed of artifacts not exhibited for reasons of space and conservation.
