"From the avant-garde to the perestroika", the Russian art of St. Petersburg from the twentieth century arrives at the Museo Novecento in Naples among oil paintings, watercolors and drawings.

From the avant-gardes to the perestroika is the title of the exhibition scheduled at Museo del Novecento in Naples, located in the Piazza d'Armi of Castel Sant'Elmo and dedicated to the artistic ferments in the city during the twentieth century, dedicated toRussian art, in particular to that produced by St. Petersburg artists in the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition is under way 4 from November to December 10 2017.

The occasion for the realization of this exhibition is the celebration of two important anniversaries for the history of Russia and the links between Russia and Naples: this year, in fact, we remember the 100 years of the Russian Revolution, while 240 years ago the first diplomatic and cultural exchange agreement was signed between Catherine the Great Empress of Russia and Ferdinand of Bourbon King of the Two Sicilies.

The exhibition, promoted by the City of St. Petersburg and the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Naples, was created with the Campania Museum Complex and curated by Anna Maria Romano and Marina Jigarhanjan, coordinated by Aphrodite Oikonomidou.

From the avant-gardes to the perestroika, to discover the Russian art of the twentieth century

128 are the Russian artworks on display in Naples, all from the collection of the MISP - St. Petersburg Museum of Art and made by artists from St. Petersburg. There Civic Art GalleryIn fact, it has an extraordinary collection of over two thousand five hundred works of painting, graphics, sculpture, applied art and, like the Museo Novecento in Naples, tells from 1990 the production and artistic evolution of its city during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Among the exhibited works oil paintings, watercolors and drawings representing the best of the artistic production of St. Petersburg during the twentieth century, through different styles, themes and artistic generations, to offer the visitor a complete vision of the various schools, trends and currents that have followed in the Russian city and to make known one of the most cultured and elegant cities in Europe.

You can thus admire works belonging to the Russian avant-gardes and others more influenced by modernity, those characterized by the Socialism up to the artistic movements of the period of perestroika and to new artistic research and contemporary experimentation.
