'O ghinnèss, the longest line of musicians in the Neapolitan park

'O ghinnèss returns to Naples, with hundreds of mandolinists, guitarists and artists from the Neapolitan parking area

Within the framework of May of 2015 Monuments, Saturday May 16 2015 get 'O ghinnèss, the longest row of musicians from the famous Neapolitan park.

The musicians will invade practically the historical center of the city and will try to overcome the record of the previous years, presenting themselves in many to honor one of the most ancient Neapolitan traditions, the park in fact.
They are already hundreds i mandolin, guitarists, singers, tammorra players, masks of the characters of Neapolitan Comedy, guarattelle artists, also coming from other Italian regions, who have booked to participate in the event.

Mayor De Magistris will cut the inaugural ribbon followed by a colorful fireworks display. Subsequently, the participants guided and accompanied by the tammorra dumb by Salvatore Masiello will move from Via San Giovanni Maggiore Pignatelli n.5, where the violin-making school "La Bottega del Mandolino" and the Mastro Masiello Mandolino Association are located, covering all the streets of the historic center of Naples until the arrival in Piazza del Gesù Nuovo. Many will participate in the long procession children dressed in pulcinellesco costume, representing the most populous and popular neighborhoods of Naples.

The park, which has very ancient origins, is one of the most folkloristic traditions, in which the itinerant musicians, known as valets, entertain the spectators intoning classic Neapolitan songs or reciting a text using an almost incomprehensible language, 'a parlesia.

In this next event, however, the repertoire will include not only Neapolitan songs but also those of Pino Daniele, whose birthplace is right in the Old Center.

The event will be anticipated by other appointments, which will start as early as April, of the tasting stages of 'O ghinnèss, and thanks to the Study Center on the Neapolitan Song of the I Sedili di Napoli Association, each exhibition will be dedicated to a different Neapolitan artist. Here is the initial program.

Advance program 'O ghinnèss

  • Saturday 11 April, at 11 am in Vico Santa Luciella in San Gregorio Armeno, with “Le Tammorre dei Sedili di Napoli”;
  • Saturday 18 April at 11 am in Piazzetta Santa Caterina in Chiaia, with the group “Mastro Masiello Mandolino”;
  • Saturday 25 April, at 11 am in Vico San Severino in Spaccanapoli, with “L'Officina della Tammorra”;
  • Saturday 9 May the classic park at 11 am in Via San Gregorio Armeno with the "Mastro Masiello Mandolino" group

Final event

The 16 may 2015 will be the final concert with a procession from Via San Giovanni Maggiore Pignatelli n.5, via Benedetto Croce, Via San Biagio dei Librai, Via San Gregorio Armeno, Via dei Tribunali, with stages show in Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, Piazzetta Nile, Piazza San Gaetano. The journey will resume along Via San Pietro a Majella, Via San Sebastiano and end in Piazza del Gesù Nuovo at 13,30.
