Il City of Naples approved an important resolution aimed at the renewal and enhancement of Piazza Garibaldi. The initiative, led by the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, aims to enhance the security, livability and social inclusion, as well as stimulating commercial development in the area. The mayor underlines that the goal is to maintain a commitment to citizens after a long process of listening and monitoring the territory.
What the plan entails
External management for valorisation
La resolution provides for the assignment to external subjects, through a public procedure, of the management and revitalization of Piazza Garibaldi for a period of 4 years, extendable for another 4 years. The notice of assignment will be published shortly. The measure is aimed at improving the urban quality and promote social cohesion in the northern area of Piazza Garibaldi, focusing on spaces such as sports areas, playgrounds, the “Cavea” hypogeum and the management of seven kiosks for commercial use on lease.

Surveillance, green care and social commitment
The activities envisaged by the resolution include the surveillance active and passive, the management of public toilets, the maintenance ordinary and extraordinary of green spaces, the cleaning of the areas and the implementation of social inclusion projects, socio-educational animation, social mediation and the development of low-threshold services.
Proposals for activities and initiatives for citizens
Those interested in participating in the tender must present a plan of activities and initiatives aimed at citizens, which include social, educational, cultural, green care and cleaning activities. They will also be complementary functions are allowed, such as convivial areas, refreshment points/bars and small commercial and craft activities that contribute to the economic sustainability of the initiative, provided they are consistent with the aims of the overall non-profit project. Any profits will have to be reinvested to strengthen the social activities envisaged by the project.
