Pierfrancesco Favino brings to the Bellini Theater "The night before the forests", the monologue of Koltès which denounces the oppression of the "stranger".

From 26 February to 4 March 2019, the Bellini Theatre in Naples will host The Night Just Before the Forests , a monologue by French playwright Bernard-Marie Koltès performed by the great Pierfrancesco Favino.

An excerpt from La notte poco prima delle foresta was already made famous to the general public last year by Favino himself, who performed on stage at the 2018 Sanremo Festival, choosing precisely this intense and dramatic monologue by Koltès, demonstrating his unquestionable interpretive skills.

The Bellini show is a unique opportunity to get to know this interesting and up-to-date text, adapted for the scene by Pierfrancesco Favino and directed by the director Lorenzo Gioielli.

A monologue that denounces the oppression of the "different" and the hatred against the "foreigner"

The night just before the forests is a monologue that expresses an intense denunciation against the oppression of the “different” , against the absurd and unmotivated hatred towards the “foreigner” expressing, at the same time, his pain and his deep suffering which leads to a true manifestation of rebellion.

To give proper weight to the poignant lyrics, the director chose to keep the set sparse and essential, consisting only of a chair and flashing neon lights, hidden by a thin veil, to represent the pouring, incessant rain that characterizes the atmosphere. It is in this place, far from time and space, that Pierfrancesco Favino moves, in the guise of the "different," the "foreigner," the "immigrant," with his posture tilted by pain and his voice always seeming on the verge of breaking into tears.

Pierfrancesco Favino explained how he was so impressed by his first reading of Koltès's text that he wanted to perform it, so he could share it with the public: "I came across this text one day long ago, I stopped to listen to it without being able to leave, and from that moment it lives with me and I with it. It belongs to me, even if I still don't know exactly why. It's a stranger speaking in these pages. It's not me, yet I lose myself in his words and find myself there."
