After the strike announced by hauliers due to expensive fuel, i gas stations will start taking countermeasures to resist this increase that is not bringing them further gains and also the increases that have also been affecting electricity for several weeks.

In fact, from Monday 14 March 2022, self-service systems will turn off the lights at night, leaving the petrol pumps in the shadows, if not in the dark.

The purpose is sensitize the Government on the importance of a immediate intervention to help everyone, gas station attendants, businesses and consumers, to resist these increases.

Petrol prices

Fuel increases, but gas station earnings do not

What the gas station attendants complain about is that the sharp rise in the prices of petrol and diesel does not correspond to a corresponding increase in their earnings.

In fact, as stated by Enzo Nettis, president of Faib-Confesercenti, the revenue from gas stations always remains at 3,5 gross cents per liter, regardless of the price per liter of fuel for consumers.

In addition, the electricity bills, for gas stations, have increased by 135% and each plant would spend about 10000 euros more every year. An expense that becomes unsustainable.

The demands of the gas stations

What they are asking the government is to intervene immediately applying the law 244/07 which, in terms of movable or countercyclical excise duty, plans to sterilize fuel tax increases. This means that they can decrease the rates of excise duties, that is, those taxes that the State applies on the manufacture or sale of consumer products, such as petrol, and which are paid precisely at the time of purchase because they are included in the price.

With this law, this tax could decrease and there would be a advantage for both gas stations and consumers.
