With autumn the festivals dedicated to chestnuts multiply more and more and in Campania there are many events not to be missed. With the Chestnut festival in Summonte not only can you taste many dishes and desserts prepared with this spectacular dried fruit, but you will also have the opportunity to participate in a guided tour with delicious gastronomic breaks.
The 23 October 2016, reaching the 34th edition, with the background of the charming medieval town that will be enhanced even more thanks to this event that continues to make known to visitors the famous chestnut of Partenio. For many centuries this product was the basis of the Summontese diet and continues to be very important even today.
The festival program includes the whole day, starting in the morning and ending in the early evening with music and shows.

Meeting in Piazza Tigli.
The tour begins in the ancient village with a guided tour to discover its history with a stop at the castle at the tower overlooking the valley. If the day is particularly clear, you can even see Puglia.
We will also visit the Church of the Annunziata, which dates back to the sixteenth century and is rich in paintings and frescoes by painters of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In addition, a naturalistic excursion in the chestnut groves and environmental path.
The booths with roasted chestnuts and ballasts, offers to visitors, will also be opened.

Return to the village for the lunch break
The menu includes: first course, second course with side dish, a bottle of water and a glass of wine, dessert made with castagnaccio.
It will be the opening of the food stand with typical Sumontese dishes, such as grilled sausage and hanged caciocavallo, and Aglianico wine from the local vineyards. In the stands you will also find chestnut-based desserts such as urchins, trunks, pies, truffles, millefeuille, montebianco, delicious, cannoli.
