Naples is ready for one radical transformation thanks to the efforts of FS Urban Systems, which recently unveiled its ambitious plans for Naples East Gate e Naples Campi Flegrei. Projects at the center of the broader plan urban regeneration aimed at renewing the face of the city.
It will actually be a benefit to the city, either will be one of the many projects for the benefit of a few disguised as a work for the community?
The development projects in the areas of Naples Porta Est and Naples Campi Flegrei
The transformations foreseen for Naples East Gate e Naples Campi Flegrei aim to modernize these two important areas of the city, improving connectivity and liveability for citizens. Both projects were designed to integrate different modes of transport and to promote access to larger and more functional public spaces.
A Naples East Gate, attention is focused onharmonization of transport systems with the urban environment. The challenge is to create an area that facilitates daily travel and is at the same time attractive and safe. The recent international competition is looking for designers who can interpret these principles, proposing solutions that enhance inclusiveness and the environment.
Naples Campi Flegrei, on the other hand, will see a renewal which is not limited to the simple redevelopment of infrastructure, but includes the creation of new public spaces and green areas. Places designed to be meeting points, encouraging socialization and strengthening the local community.

The economic and social impact of the works
Frances Zirnstein, General Director of Scenari Immobiliari, presented a report on "Naples, the railway yards and the economic and social consequences of their regeneration“. The paper offered insight into the impact of transforming these areas can have on the real estate market and more generally on the community of Naples.
The report highlighted how regeneration projects will increase the value of the properties in the affected areas e they will also stimulate the development of new services and infrastructure, benefiting the entire local economy. Furthermore, the improvement of urban areas will lead to greater social cohesion, with more liveable public spaces that encourage interaction and social inclusion.
What is a little perplexing is that during this event no local committee was present or any civil representation of local citizens whose lives will be greatly impacted by these investments.
When such events took place in the eastern area of Naples, the outcome was far from favorable for those who lived in those areas. We can only hope given that not all that glitters is gold, but that investments will actually be made in favor of the Neapolitans.
