Stefano Accorsi and Marco Baliani bring their "Playing with Orlando" to the Bellini Theater in Naples, inspired by the famous "Orlando Furioso" by Ludovico Ariosto
Al Bellini Theater of Naples, from 28 February to 5 March 2017, will be on stage "Playing with Orlando" a curious and ironic show with Stefano Accorsi e Marco Baliani, who also oversaw the adaptation and direction.
Freely inspired by the famous "Orlando furious", 16th century chivalric poem of Ludovico Ariosto, "Playing with Orlando" represents the second comparison between Stefano Accorsi and Marco Baliani with the Ariosto masterpiece, after having brought the "Furious Orlando".
As the same title indicates, here Marco Baliani "plays" with the 38.746 lines of the“Orlando Furioso and women, knights, arms, loves ", and turn it into an unprecedented "Ballad in Ariosto's rhymes and a singular battle" for the stage, from body to body, rhyme after rhyme, with Stefano Accorsi.
This is an unprecedented theatrical experiment that incorporates the sublime art of the jester and the improvisation that creates rhymes, verses, sounds and noises in front of the audience. with only two actors on stage to give life to the thousand characters of the poem, entering and exiting, time by time, from each of them, exploring this fairytale universe armed with curiosity and irony.
On a scene inhabited only by the works by Mimmo Paladino and from his famous horses with which he makes the joust for duels, loves, clashes and meetings of the knights, the two artists tell us about the two main amorous plots, that between Orlando and the beautiful Angelica and between the Christian warrior Bradamante and the Saracen knight Ruggiero, but also jealousy, escapes and travels with the same words used by Ariosto, but updating them, commenting on them and nourishing them with new vitality, strictly in rhyme!
In a surprising scenic experiment that will conquer the viewer who "he will suddenly find himself in front of something ancient, the feelings, he will barely have time to hear them and feel something that resembles nostalgia, only to be dragged back on the roller coaster of the flying hippogriff or the roaring killer whale ”.
