A new change of name for an important place in Naples, after the Stadium named after Maradona: this time we are talking aboutCapodichino Airport which will be named after the tenor Enrico Caruso.

This was announced by the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini during his visit to the San Carlo Theater a few days ago, one year after the centenary of his death. The tenor died in 1921 and last year i 100 years since his death and many events have also been organized in his honor.

Thus, Minister Franceschini unveiled this initiative and our airport will no longer be known as Capodichino. The name change will most likely take place officially next year when the 150th anniversary of the birth of Enrico Caruso will occur.

In 100 years the name has changed several times

In reality, the name of Capodichino Airport has already changed other times in the past. In fact, at its foundation it was called Military Airport of Campo di Marte, then in 1921 it was entitled to Hugh Niutta, a tribute to the aviator and officer of the First World War. This is currently its real name, but it is commonly known as "Capodichino" due to the name of the hill on which it is located.

From 2023, his third name will be the one dedicated to Enrico Caruso.
