The Preturese Artichoke Festival is back in Montoro (AV): stands and traditional dishes

Among the annual appointments concerning the spring festivals we also find the Preturese Artichoke Festival which takes place every year in the small town of Preturo, Fraction Montoro in Avellino, which turns into the capital of the Artichoke! An event to taste the artichoke in all its forms which opens its doors from 22 to 25 April 2023.

The Preturese Artichoke Festival therefore represents an opportunity for all fans of traditional Italian cuisine to taste genuine dishes rich in flavour, made with products zero km. The food stands will offer a real triumph of artichokes, protagonists of delicious dishes such as:

  • carpaccio
  • lasagne with artichokes
  • risottos of various kinds
  • Artichoke Parmigiana
  • meatballs with artichokes
  • grilled violets, the traditional grilled artichokes typical of Campania

The origins of the Preturo di Montoro artichoke and its recipes

The Artichoke of Preturo di Montoro is a late vegetable which grows in an area with a microclimate favourable, nutritious soils and abundant water. This vegetable is without thorns and is characterized by a marked aromaticity e sweetness.

It is grown with traditional techniques secular trees and selection of seeds, which makes it a traditional food product of Campania. It is rich in minerals, Vitamin C and beta carotene, and is recommended for the diet of diabetics and protective for the liver and kidneys.

The Artichoke Preturese is exceptional in many recipes, as roast with garlic and parsley or stewed and stuffed with plenty of parsley and bacon.
