They are taking place in the Villa Comunale of Naples important restoration work on the 8 statues found at the entrance on the side of Piazza Vittoria, interventions that are giving new life to the location.
Thanks to the agreement between the Municipal Administration and the MACS Association, Patrons for the Arts, Cinema and Sport, the restoration of the Faun with cymbals, the first of these 8 statues affected by the works. In addition, the windows of the entrance and theplayground which is nearby, finally reopened to children.
The neoclassical statues restored thanks to modern patrons
In total, as mentioned, there will be 8 statues of the Villa Comunale that will be restored and it is about statues of the neoclassical period, copies of those from the Roman era.
They represent mythological figures and are located on high bases and were made by Tommaso Soleri, excluding a statue of Hercules with Faun which was the work of Andrea Violoni.
They all come from the Royal Palace of Caserta and, at the beginning, they were placed inside the Villa, then it was decided to move them to the entrance during the works at the entrance ordered in 1780 by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon on a project by Carlo Vanvitelli.
The works were financed by the Art-Bonus with 74500 € (for all the statues) and, thanks to the support of a number of entrepreneurs, they will be made possible. This is an intervention by patronage with a strong symbolic value because it is one of the first examples of public-private collaboration in Naples.
The statue of the Faun in the Villa Comunale
The first statue that has been totally restored is that of Faun with cymbals which has already been placed at the entrance on the side of Piazza Vittoria.
During these works, the important statue of the Faun playing the pipe will also be returned to the Villa which is currently in storage.
The other interventions in the Villa Comunale
In addition to the restoration of the first statue and the reopening of theplayground, almost all of the solenoid valves for daily irrigation flower beds, thanks to the collaboration with ABC, Acqua Bene Comune.
Moreover, thanks to ASIA, it is periodically carried out mechanical sweeping of the avenues. The Municipality also reports that periodic maintenance is carried out on the 50.000 square meters of grassy surfaces in all 90 flower beds and that tall trees will be able as soon as the season makes it possible.
In the meantime, the start of the overall redevelopment works, which have already been financed, and which will rebuild the entire flooring of the Villa Comunale to ensure that it is finally adequate to the place.
