A new interesting guided tour he will let us discover one of the most fascinating places in Naples, rich in considerable historical-architectural evidence that tell the ancient history of our city.

Il 30 May 2015, thanks to the Instaura Tour initiative and the collaboration of the Celanapoli cultural association, it will be possible to discover not only the treasures found in the Borgo dei Vergini, between ancient buildings and churches, but also the fantastic ones hypogea of ​​the Hellenistic necropolis. As we know, in fact, the Greeks were the first people to settle in what is now our city and the unique tombs found in the basement of the Sanità area are a precious testimony.

The tour

The guided tour will start from Porta San Gennaro, one of the ancient gateways to the city, and will continue towards the Church of Santa Maria dei Vergini, in the years restored several times, and then get to the very famous Palazzo dello Spagnuolo (Palazzo Moscati). Appearing several times in famous films, the Palace is made famous by his own open stairs and is one of the symbols of the Neapolitan Baroque, designed by the architect Ferdinando Sanfelice.

The visit will end with the highlight of the tour: theHypogeum of the Togati, in via Santa Maria Antesaecula.

The Hypogeum of the Togati

It is a funeral chamber of incredible value, found after the 1980 earthquake, even if already in Previously it was used for other purposes (tank until the cholera epidemic of 1884, anti-aircraft shelter during the two world wars). The official, however, came only in that year.
The sepulcher is dated between the end of the XNUMXth and the beginning of the XNUMXrd century. B.C, about 2300 years ago and owes its name to the finding of a high relief representing a man and a woman wearing chiton, himation and toga, typical Greek clothes. It is therefore a tomb destined for the aristocracy of the time.

It is an extraordinary example of ours immense underground patrimony and, together with the many other hypogea that are found at the Sanità, unfortunately not yet fully recovered, represents a unique find in Europe.
