The guided visits to the Roman thermal complex of via Terracina in Naples are coming, a multi-level installation with mosaics and decorations!
In the heart of Fuorigrotta, within the university spaces, stands the Roman thermal complex of via Terracina, discovered in the Fascist era, during the excavations for what would become the Mostra d'Oltremare. Here, the 17 and 18 February 2018, will be organized of the Free guided tours discovering a little known heritage.
The plant is articulated on several levels: the original structure dates back to the 2nd century AD, but over time has undergone several changes that have changed the layout of the spaces. On the floors you can still admire gods mosaics with black and white tesserae, despite exposure to atmospheric agents has compromised its conservation.
The mosaics are decorated with marine figures: nereids, dolphins, newts and fantastic animals. On the walls, however, traces of the marble cladding and the plinth remain. Powered bySerino aqueduct, the pools allowed guests to take advantage of various treatments. Among these, the main one included a path in tanks at different temperatures, to end with cold baths in the frigidarium.
