Theatral evening visits to the Church of Saints Severino and Sossio di Napoli with final aperitif

Discovering the Church of Santi Severino e Sossio in Naples with evening guided tours of the Italian Touring Club!

The Touring Club Italiano invites Neapolitans to visit this hidden gem in Naples' historic center for four dates between January and April 2016. TCI volunteers will lead guests through the Church of Saints Severino and Sossio during theatrical nighttime guided tours, concluding with an aperitif and snack.

The monumental complex, built in the 9th century, also includes the wonderful Benedictine monastery which has been home to the State Archives since 1835.

The ticket includes both the theatrical tour and the aperitif. The meeting point is always at 5:45 pm in front of the San Severino entrance. Reservations are recommended , as the maximum number of participants is 70.

The monumental complex

At the end of the 5th century, the land on which the complex would be built was donated to Saint Benedict by the consul Anicius Equitius. At the end of the 9th century , by order of Bishop Athanasius II, a monastery was founded with 15 monks who would follow the Rule of Saint Benedict, dedicated to Saint Severinus Abbot.

The monastery was founded in the 10th century by the Benedictine monks, when, due to the feared Saracen raids, they abandoned the old monastery, located on the hill of Pizzofalcone, also bringing relics of San Severino and there they moved there relics of San Sossio, companion of martyrdom of San Gennaro, found among the ruins of the castle of Miseno.
