In a few days it will start Wiki Loves Monuments Italy, the world's largest photo contest dedicated to the documentation and enhancement of our cultural heritage.

Wiki Loves Monuments Italy, a contest promoted and coordinated by Wikimedia Italia, the social promotion association aimed at spreading free knowledge, will be open to all photography enthusiasts and will have museums, art places and archaeological sites as "protagonists". Italy.

Anyone wishing to participate in the competition will be able to arm themselves with a camera and go in the museum and cultural sites of the Ministry of Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism who have given their support and released the necessary authorizations for the use of the images. From the 1 30 2014 September all the photos can be uploaded on the official website of the Wiki Loves Monuments competition where they will be evaluated in view of the final award ceremony which will take place in November.

Wiki Loves Monuments it therefore proves to be an unmissable opportunity to open the symbolic places of our country's history and culture to the public, inaugurating new ways of using them.

The General Direction of the Great Pompeii Project and the Special Superintendence for the Archaeological Heritage of Pompeii Herculaneum and Stabia, strongly wanted this initiative to take place to allow both Italian and foreign participants in the competition to get to know the archaeological sites among the most important in the world, and to directly involve them in activities to improve the use and enhancement of cultural heritage.

The contest is, of course, in progress throughout Italy where, hopefully, it will be able to confirm an unprecedented and interactive way to guarantee the dissemination of our greatest wealth, while at the same time increasing awareness of the need for conservation and protection.
