The Mirabilis Pool

In particular, the television report will see Alberto Angela intent on telling the story of the Piscina Mirabilis, that is a Roman archaeological monument dating back to the Augustan age and which in the beginning was a cistern of drinking water, the largest ever built by the ancient Romans.

Given its majesty, the cistern is also known by the name of Water Cathedral, in fact it could contain up to 12.600 cubic meters of water. The plan is quadrangular and has four rows of twelve cruciform pillars, dividing the interior space into five long and thirteen short naves.

The words of the mayor of Bacoli

Great, therefore, the satisfaction of the mayor of Bacoli, Josi Gerardo della Ragione, here are his words:

It is a great pride for all Bacolese. And for all Phlegrean people. So eyes focused on the Neapolitan capital. And on the Campi Flegrei. Starting right from the underground "cathedral" of Bacoli. We are a national pride. We have an immense archaeological, landscape, naturalistic and cultural heritage. It is finally returning to light up. Thanks to the commitment of many. Together, we can do it. We succeed. A step at a time.
