La submerged city of Baia, dopo the last great find, revealed another surprise: an incredible one mosaic dated approximately 2000 years ago, dating back to the time of theAncient Rome. the white tiles, blue and with nuances bitchy compose the work, which according to the experts of the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park could be influenced by the artistic style in vogue in theancient Tunisia, where Carthage once stood, Rome's historical enemy, subdued by the Romans in the XNUMXnd century BC

The precious mosaic found in the "Terme del Lacus"

The investigations in the field ofunderwater archeology are continuously bringing to light historical artifacts of great value. Among these, the mosaic recently discovered at the Terme del Lacus, immortalized by underwater photographer Edoardo Ruspantini.

According to the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park, the mosaic presents a "central tondo, not yet fully discovered, which conceals a figure that is difficult to interpret". The red lines, made with elongated tesserae, are particularly interesting and singular.

Fascinating details of the mosaic and possible connections with Tunisia

The Archaeological Park goes on to state that

"in the small portion of the floor brought to light so far, one can see various intersecting geometries and, perhaps, the edge of the entire composition".

Experts believe the overall design of the mosaic can be compared to similar examples unearthed in Tunisia. These would be "tangent circles, separated by intertwined braids, which generate hexagons with concave sides". Further details may emerge in future excavations.
