Il Bello or il Vero, a journey through Neapolitan sculpture between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and between the real and the virtual in San Domenico Maggiore

In the Complex of San Domenico Maggiore, in the heart of the historic center of Naples, you can visit until 31 January 2015 until May 31 2015 the exhibition The Beautiful or the True. The Neapolitan Sculpture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. A real journey immersed in the history of Neapolitan art that makes use of the most advanced technologies of use, created by Isabella Valente and included in the program of the Forum Delle Culture 2014, promoted by the Municipality of Naples and the University of Naples Federico II, with the patronage of the Campania Region.

The Beautiful or the True is a unique exhibition of its kind, because it does not limit itself to offering the visitor a "classic" exhibition itinerary, which includes well 250 works from museums, galleries and private collections throughout Italy, which will provide a detailed visual and documentary contribution on the situation of the Neapolitan sculpture between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Once again, after the success of An impossible exhibition, art makes use of the support of new digital and interactive technologies that will amplify the ways of using the works.

The aim of the exhibition is to focus attention on Neapolitan sculpture in a decisive period for the renewal of taste, beyond neoclassical and romantic models, towards realism and immediate expression. On display some great artistic personalities, from Vincenzo Gemito to Francesco Jerace, who, with their works, contributed to this change in sensitivity, also coming into contact with the European context.

Ma The Beautiful or the True it will not only include sculptures. The exhibition will propose a dynamic fruition itinerary, with the help of specific technological supports, developed by Databenc (High Technology District for Cultural Heritage), which will stimulate critical knowledge and curiosity. Visitors will be able to dialogue with the works, thanks to the technologies developed within the CHIS (Cultural Heritage Information System), OPS (Opere Parlanti Show), SNECS (Social Network Entities of Historic Centers) and Muse @ home projects, actively interacting with the information and contents, through smartphone applications and virtual reconstructions on very high definition screens.

The novelty introduced by the exhibition is interactivity guaranteed by the new technologies of social networking and the world of apps. The sculptures, thanks to a free downloadable app designed for smartphones and tablets, will tell visitors as they approach the individual works, equipped with special sensors. The user can customize the program, requesting non-suggested content and processing it. In this way the user will be actively involved in the work at the cognitive and sensorial level.

Through tablets and smartphones you will be able to appreciate all the details of the works and connect those of different authors. Some sculptures will be reconstructed in 3D on interactive screens high resolution that the visitor can "rotate", move in three-dimensional space and discover every detail through touchless gestural commands.

The Beautiful or the True it is an opportunity to live the museum experience in a new and non-passive way, rediscovering our artistic and cultural heritage thanks to the introduction of digital and interactive technologies that place the user at the center of the experiential path.
