If the last season of the Series A TIM was a tour de force for Napoli fans, who celebrated their club's triumph, it's time to turn the page.

The new football chapter is upon us and brings with it intriguing news and previews of the year which will involve not only the championship, but also the commitments of the national teams. Get ready for an exciting journey into Italian football.

No Christmas break in 2023

Well yes, Serie A TIM has decided to eliminate what for many was a breath of fresh air, the Christmas break. We are all used to the festive days between Christmas and New Year as a moment of respite in the midst of the football frenzy, but this time it is different.

There will be no much-loved Boxing Day, but fans will be able to enjoy uninterrupted matches throughout the holidays. This decision will ensure a constant pace and could even open new dynamics in the tournament.

The teams will find themselves competing also on December 30th and January 6th, with the exception of some big ones like Napoli e Inter, who will have commitments in the Italian Super Cup.

What is Boxing day

Boxing Day is a holiday of British origin that falls the day after Christmas, i.e. December 26th. In the football context, the term is used to indicate a day, or several days, of matches taking place during the Christmas period. This tradition is very popular in the United Kingdom and sees a busy schedule of matches in various leagues, especially the Premier League.

In Italy, the introduction of Boxing Day into the Serie A calendar was a relatively recent innovation, partially replicating the British tradition. The day is characterized by a series of matches played in rapid succession, providing continuous entertainment for fans during the Christmas holidays.

The breaks for the national teams involved in the 2024 European Championships

It's not all work and no play, of course. Despite the intense pace, the championship will take a break to make room for national team competitions, ahead of the 2024 European Championships in Germany. Here are the dates on which the beating heart of Italian football will slow down to let the engines breathe:

  • 10 September 2023: First stop for the qualifiers
  • 15 October 2023: Second break, also here for the qualifiers
  • November 19, 2023: Third act, again to make room for national team matches
  • March 24, 2024: The last breath before the championship grand final

Here's a table to recap:
