Carnival of Scampia | Sunday 15 February

Like every year, the most anticipated carnival parade in Naples is organized in the district of Scampia by the association GRIDAS (Gruppo RIsveglio DAl Sonno), created with the aim of stimulating an awakening in the consciences of Neapolitan citizens and promoting active participation in the growth of the city. The 33rd preparation of this Carnival is entrusted to laboratories followed by active citizens who meet since January to give life to the colorful final parade, manually creating masks, floats and costumes, in the name of recovering manual skills and recycling.

Carnival of Materdei | Friday 13 February

Fifth edition of the Carnival of Materdei entitled "'Mmescafrancesca", because this year the theme will be a multidifferent society, where different languages, colors, stories, origins, gender differences represent a resource and not a negativity. Against any form of racism and intolerance.

Soccavo Carnival | Thursday 12 February

The theme of the second edition of the Soccavo Carnival è “Let's mask the periphery“, With reference to taking off the mask of a place where there is nothing, where nothing can be done and demonstrate that, in a simple and spontaneous way, organized from below, it is possible to create beautiful things. The project of this carnival was carried out by the children of the Basile School, through workshops for creating musical instruments of the Neapolitan tradition e Masks using recycled materials.

Carnival of Health | Friday 13 February

In Rione Sanità the sixth edition of the Carnival will be held “SPIAZZiAmoli, together to take back the spaces of the neighborhood and the city”.

It is a Carnival of social redemption, which will culminate in Piazza Cavour, one of the symbolic places of decay in the neighborhood, where too many episodes of petty crime occur and where the homeless often take refuge, abandoned. The protagonists of the carnival will be the young people of the schools and educational centers in the area, who in the preparation workshops are experimenting, through play and creativity, new collective ways to take care of their city.

The procession will cross the symbolic places of the Health district and will end in Piazza Cavour where there will be musical performances, photographic exhibitions and street laboratories organized by the socio-educational realities that together with Traparentesi Onlus promote the initiative.

Carnival in Naples 2015

Carnival of the Historical Center | Tuesday 17 February

In the spaces ofFormer Filangier Kindergartencreative-constructive workshops have been held since January, aimed at children from 0 to 99 years old, to invent together the parade of the usual Carnival of the Historical Center, Entitled “The right to the city”. The next events will be held on Saturday 7 February and 14 February 14, from 16.30 to 18.30 pm at the Asylum in vico Maffei, 4.

The workshop is the result of the synergy between the visual artists of the Asilo, the collective Doposcuola as well as the Zero81 School (largo Banchi Nuovi) and the Centro Storico Committee.

Carnival parades in Campania

Many are the villages of the Campania where every year celebrations and celebrations are held on the occasion of the Carnival. Some of them can claim to represent fundamental moments of promotion and enhancement of the territory, through traditional customs and traditions, which have very distant origins over the centuries.

Carnival of Limatola (BN)

Strianese Carnival (NA)

Il Striano Carnival has reached its 32nd edition and is considered one of the most important in Campania but also in Italy, thanks to its huge and beautiful allegorical wagons.

Striano is transformed, in occasion of the Carnival, into a real one Citadel of the Carnival, set up in via Poggiomarino, where districts of the town, “Arco”, “Piazza”, “Troccole”, “Marzo” and “Saudone”, are preparing to make their own allegorical floats made of papier-mâché.

The parades of the wagons will be held in the days 14, 15, 17, 21 and 22 February.

Carnevale di Saviano (NA)

From the 1979 Saviano Carnival has the goal, through folk festivals and parades of allegorical floats, to counteract the habit of throwing eggs and flour to passers-by in the street, and to preserve the history and peasant traditions of the Nola area.

Over the years the Saviano Carnival it has become one of the most famous in Campania, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the region. Palmese Carnival (NA)

A Palma Campania Carnival has been experienced, since 1600, as a moment of authentic folklore, which expresses the true essence of a centenary tradition and the most genuine cultural character of historical memory. The Carnival Palmese not only famous for its allegorical floats, but for the spectacular events, concerts of popular music and dances that involve the whole population, and for the Quadrille race.

Le quadrille they are local folkloristic groups composed of about two hundred participants (the quadriglianti), who perform live with the use of traditional Neapolitan instruments (tamburrelle, putipù, triccaballacchi, scetavajasse and acciarini). Each Quadrille is accompanied by a musical band playing wind or percussion instruments. Costumes and musical pieces are based on a unique theme chosen by the committee of their own quadrille. Scenography and choreography transform every performance into a real popular musical!

Carnival of Montemarano (AV)
