The crypt of the Church of Santa Maria alla Sanità in Naples has been restored, the effigy of the oldest Madonna in Campania returns!
Monday 29 May 2017 will be inaugurated the ancient crypt of the Church of Santa Maria della Sanità in Naples and, for the occasion, he will return to his place there oldest effigy of Campania dedicated to the Madonna which gives its name to the neighborhood church. It is an early Christian fresco dating back to the fifth century after Christ.
Dopo un very long restoration work, the work will be able to be admired again by the faithful and by visitors in general and on Monday evening a mass will be celebrated to consecrate the event. In fact, at 19.00, Holy Mass will be celebrated in the presence of Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Lutheran pastor Kirsten Thiele, Undersecretary of Culture Antimo Cesaro and Luciano Garella, Superintendete Belle Arti,
The effigy will be placed in theHypogeum of the Church, then in the underground crypt. This is a further step towards rebirth of the Rione Sanità, after other important initiatives such as some events for i 50 years after Totò's disappearance, the review Welcome to the Health District and Totò Tour.
Finally, we recall that on 22 May in the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità a mass was also celebrated in memory of Totò in the presence of the Minister of Tourism and Culture Dario Franceschini.
