Circumvesuviana Sorrento, stop at the stops up to T. Annunziata
The Volturno Autonomous Body (EAV) has announced an important change for the Circumvesuviana on the railway line which connects Naples to Sorrento.
Starting July 3ththe intermediate stops between Naples and Torre Annunziata will be suspended for return trains between Naples and Sorrento. This modification, which will be implemented on an experimental basis only for the summer, was decided in agreement with the trade union organizations and the mayors of the cities concerned.
How the new operating model and new train frequency will work
The new operating model provides for:
- A train from Naples to Sorrento every 36 minutes, with the first stop in Torre Annunziata.
- A train between Naples and Torre Annunziata on average every 18 minutes.
This means who will have to go to Sorrento from San Giorgio a Cremano or from Torre del Greco he will have to change trains in Torre Annunziata. The EAV claims that this small sacrifice will bring to an increase in the number of trains and to a major punctuality, eliminating a number of intersections that often cause traffic problems.
Will it go back to traditional mode at the end of the experimentation?
The EAV underlined that it is an experimentation and that, if it doesn't work, we will go back to the old model.
The company also recalled that the structural problems associated with old trains persist and to the infrastructure, on which the necessary investments are underway. This attempt to improve the regularity of traffic is therefore one step waiting for the new trains and railway signaling works.
Details on the new exercise program
Starting July 3, they will be in circulation or224 trains every day, including 58 very direct trains on the Naples-Sorrento line every 36 minutes.
These trains will stop at the following stations:
- Naples Porta Nolana
- Piazza Garibaldi
- Torre Annunziata
- Villa Regina
- Pompei
- Pioppaino
- Via Nocera
- Castellammare
- Vico Equense
- Sejanus
- Meta
- Piano
- Sant'Agnello
- Sorrento
Furthermore, there will be 8 very direct Campania Express trains.
Objectives of the new model
The goal of the new exercise model is to eliminate structural lag and to make the real time coincide with the theoretical one. Furthermore, an attempt is being made to improve the railway service, which today is characterized by very critical punctuality and regularity indices, especially on single track sections due to the so-called 'crossings', especially on the Naples-Sorrento route.
Torre Annunziata as an interchange hub and the extension of the timetable
Torre Annunziata station will become an interchange hub between the Sorrento, Poggiomarino and Torre Annunziata lines.
The summer program provides for an hour extension of the operating timetable on the Naples-Sorrento route, which will from the current 6/23 to the 5:30/23:30.
- The first train departing from Sorrento will be at 5:30 and the last at 22:03.
- The first train from Naples to Sorrento it will be at 5:40 while the last one from Naples will be at 22:11.
This device will be carried out on an experimental basis in the months of July and August and, in the event of a positive outcome and subject to a new agreement with the trade union organisations, it could also continue in the winter period on the basis of the same model with an increase in the daily supply.
