THEEAV has decided to dedicate his own train to the great Neapolitan tenor Enrico Caruso and precisely it is a train of 1926, therefore a historical train.

He left for the first time on 25 May from Naples to arrive in Castellammare di Stabia with a group of travelers on board for the maiden voyage. From there, the travelers then took the Funicular to climb Mount Faito and enjoy a beautiful panorama.

A beautiful initiative that wanted to inaugurate the station of the "Spring of soft mobility" organized by the Amodo association, to go to the discovery of the Italian territories and landscapes.

The characteristics of the historic train

The EAV train dedicated to Caruso is a historical train BD series from 1926 that was it restored for the occasion and that he will travel on the tracks between Naples and Sorrento, therefore those of Circumvesuviana.

During the restoration they were left the interior furnishings intact and the crates so as not to alter the charm of this vintage train.

The name of this train was given last year when the centenary of the tenor's death Enrico Caruso, but also to celebrate the 2022th anniversary of his birth in 149.

In short, certainly a truly original idea which unfortunately has also sparked controversy.

The controversy that arose from the Gaetano Bonelli museum

Following the inauguration of the Enrico Caruso train, some controversy on the part of the owner of the Bonelli museum, the largest museum dedicated to Naples. Let's talk about Gaetano Bonelli, who claims the idea of the dedication.

In fact, as can also be seen in one of his posts on Facebook published last year and also shown in these days as proof, Bonelli had already met Umberto De Gregorio, President of EAV, inApril 2021 to propose the idea of dedicating a vintage train to the tenor.

Post Bonelli De Gregorio

Bonelli states that:

The idea of that train is ours documented by a series of meetings and conversations with Eav, a job started a year ago. It was a special convoy that would connect Naples and Sorrento, the two "Carusian" cities in which the great tenor spent the last moments of his existence. The idea is much appreciated by De Gregorio to the point that he makes bombastic statements where he says that he will take action to realize what we have proposed, in celebrating the Tenorissimo worthily.

Subsequently, again according to Bonelli's reconstruction, a request would also come from the President to submit a program which Bonelli himself had developed from hoc with precise documents and also commemorative postcards and images dedicated to Caruso.

Since, there were no more contacts between Bonelli and De Gregorio, a silence that lasted until these days when the train was inaugurated, without the participation of Gaetano Bonelli. The latter he learned of the news only through the newspapers, with great disappointment stating

Culture should be inclusion, sharing, participation, this is how we understand it, this annoys the gentlemen of the lounges and rooms of power and they have not forgiven us, but we will continue on our way, along the path that leads to the beauty of knowledge and pleasure to promote and disseminate such values.
