As per tradition, every year, citizens and faithful look forward to it feast of San Gennaro, the patron saint of the city of Napoli, a celebration that is celebrated on September 19st. Even the Vomero everything is almost ready to welcome this party with events that finally, after the two-year hiatus, can be held without restrictions.
This is a special event that the citizens of Vomero are particularly fond of. Indeed, it seems that the first miracle of the liquefaction of the blood of San Gennaro took place precisely in the territory of the Praedium Antinianum, along the Via Puteolana which connected the Phlegraean city to Naples.
The story of the miracle at Vomero
During the procession organized by the Diocese of Naples to transport the body and head of San Gennaro from the Marciano countryside to the Capodimonte catacombs, a stop was made on the Vomero hill. It was just at that moment when, Eusebia, the saint's nurse, came up with ampoules containing the saint's blood, which she had collected from the solfatara at the act of martyrdom.
After Eusebia brought an ampoule to the head of the corpse it happened the first great miracle, as the blood that had previously congealed began to boil, becoming liquid.
The procession to Vomero
Monday 19 September 2022 at 18:00 will host the liturgical celebration of parish of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini. Then there will be the traditional procession along the route of the ancient Via Antiniana and the historic streets of the neighborhood.
The procession will stop at the Luigi Vanvitelli school complex. place where two crowns will be laid which will be dedicated to the brave fallen of wars. The procession will end in Piazza degli Artisti with the blessing of the people and fireworks.
