Like every year, this year too, the 19 September 2022 we will celebrate the feast of Saint Gennaro, or the patron saint of the city of Naples. As we know, three times a year, the blood of the Saint is exposed in front of citizens and faithful, who impatiently wait for the miracle, or liquefaction.
This year, unlike the past ones, will be a bit more special as the festivities and scheduled events will take place without any restrictions. There will be the traditional procession through the streets of the city and the Holy Mass. But let's see the program.
We remember that also in Vomero there will be a procession.
The program of the Feast of San Gennaro
18 Settembre
- 17 pm Vigilant Rite of the celebration of First Vespers with Archbishop Domenico Battaglia. We will proceed with the offer of oil for the votive lamp to the Holy Martyr.
- Lighting of the torches in the three landmarks of the life of San Gennaro: The Sanctuary of San Gennaro in Pozzuoli, Catacombs of San Gennaro in Capodimonte and Church of San Gennaro in Antignano. We will arrive at the Cathedral for the lighting of the votive lamp
- 18:30 celebration of the Vespertina Mass with Don Vittorio Sommella
19 Settembre
- At 09:15, Archbishop Domenico Battaglia will go to the Chapel of the Treasury, together with Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio and the mayor of Naples. In fact, Gaetano Manfredi is president of the Deputation of San Gennaro and therefore he himself will open the safe where the ampoules with blood.
- Subsequently, the ampoules will be taken to the main altar of the Cathedral, where mass will be celebrated and during which the miracle of blood liquefaction. The archbishop will walk along the central nave until he reaches the outside of it, where he will announce the miracle to the faithful and to the entire city.
Other celebrations will follow:
- At 12: 30
- 16:30 pm prayers and venerations. 18:30 pm, celebration presided over by an auxiliary bishop.
