At the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples there will be the Irish Festival with music, beer, food, shows, exhibitions and historical re-enactments!

The Irish Festival will also stop at the Mostra d'Oltremare di Napoli il 30 June, 1 and 2 July and 7, 8 and 9 July 2017, bringing a corner of Ireland to our city. It will take place as part of "Naples Meet the World“, In which there will also be the Spanish Festival.

It will be a journey through the traditions and folklore of the green island and will allow us to know its history, but also the present and ancient daily life of its people. Through events, shows, gastronomy, exhibitions, music and dancing, we will be fully immersed in the atmosphere of Ireland.

Events of the Irish Festival

The program of the event will be full of themed areas and engaging and entertaining events.

School of traditional dances

The typical Irish dance is divided into set e ceili dancing (group dances) and step dance o just dance (solo dance). Dance plays a fundamental role in Irish culture and, during the Festival, you can attend performances by professional dancers, but also dance in first people on beautiful melodies and engaging rhythms. The School of Traditional Dances will be available every day to those who want to learn the basic steps of both group and single dances.

Animation and dancefloor

Everyday you can join the groups organized by the dance teachers and dance using the steps you have learned at the School of Traditional Dances. You can do it especially during the traditional music concerts that will be organized daily.

Dancers and ensemble of traditional dances they will take place on stage and entertain you with all kinds of dancing, including Gaelic dance and river dance, one of the most famous Celtic dances.

Food & wine

The Festival will delight all beer lovers because Guinness, Kilkenny e Harp they will flow freely and will be just some of the Irish beers that can be found. They will come directly from the Dublin factories and there will be many typical gastronomic products such as beef and shin with dark beer, the soups, the smoked salmon, typical Irish grills, herb cheeses, apple desserts and Irish distillates.

Music

Music will also be among the protagonists, with many Irish bands that will cheer up all the days of the Festival, with their engaging rhythms and many cheerful and funny dances. International groups will perform every day and visitors can only dance and have fun.

Traditional games

The program also includes games typical of the Irish tradition such as the tug of war and the race of the beer yard. These are activities that usually take place in pubs, as well as the Darts, darts, a very old game that was born during the Hundred Years War. The challenge of the yard, on the other hand, plans to drink a liter of dark beer in a particular container of a yard (90,8 cm): will win those who spend less time.
In addition, there will be the launch of the horseshoe in which you will have to throw two irons each to make them come as close as possible to a stake stuck in the ground.

Exhibition of ancient instruments

An exhibition will be set up where you can admire ancient instruments such as the Tin Zufolo, or Thin Whistle, the Irish bagpipe, the Irish Violin, theCeltic Harp, the Irish Concertina, Accordion and Psalter, the Bodharan (drum held with one hand), the Cetra, the Ghironda of the Middle Ages, the Celtic War Horn.

Photographic exhibitions

In the Festival pavilion there will also be photographic exhibitions to discover the landscape, culture, i typical places and there will be many historical photos. It will be a journey through photographic reports to understand how the Irish live.

Arms school

That of the use of weapons was considered a real art that will be reproduced in a military camp where you can witness some fighting lessons practiced by armored soldiers. They will teach you how to prepare for the fight and they will be simulated duels with swords, halberds and shields. Furthermore, the phases of construction and maintenance of the most important weapons will be illustrated.

Celtic village

A typical historic camp will be set up where you can experience theatmosphere of a true Celtic village with costume figures, wooden structures, curtains, kitchens. You will discover how to cook following the traditions of the past and you can watch the preparation of drinks like hippocras and mead.
You can also immerse yourself in the village life by wearing a historical costume.

The activities of the Celtic Village will be as follows:

In your shoes

You can interact with the village group by taking up arms, wearing armor and jewels and, in the end, a souvenir photo will be taken

Celtic Marriage

Couples will be able to marry according to the Celtic tradition by joining in a marriage officiated by the Druids. The union will be even more special thanks to the presence of the elements air, earth, fire and water.

Runic divination

Il Ancient Fuþark (or ancient Futhark) it is the oldest runic alphabet used by the Germanic populations and few know it, but thanks to the art of Dugilovatis, ovate of Terra Taurina, you will be able to know all its secrets through a shamanic rite.

Warrior vestment test

You can wear theoriginal equipment of a warrior Celtic which consists of a leather bodice, iron helmet, leather greaves, leather bracelets, shield, three javelins, spear and sword.

Beer yard challenge

Beer can also become a game and you can challenge other participants to drink a liter of beer in the fastest time possible in the original one yard vessel (90,8 cm).

Tug of war

Una challenge of strength, time and resistance between two teams who have to pull a rope and manage to get the better of each other.

Launch of the horseshoe

You can participate in the Horsehoe, the throwing of the horseshoe, trying to throw two irons as close as possible to a peg in the ground. Whoever scores more points than the opponents will win.

Children will learn to perfectly shoot an arrow with a bow.

The Kilkennys

The Irish Festival hosts the first Italian stages of the tour of this dynamic, engaging and full of energy folk band, famous in many countries of Europe and the United States.

Folkamiseria

The Folkamiseria group will propose the traditional Irish folk songs giving an energetic touch the rock with the dynamism that distinguishes them.

Clan of the Fossa - The music of Celtic Warriors

The group will play the traditional Celtic percussions accompanied by bagpipes. Songs will be proposed that will recall the atmosphere of the battlefields.

Beirt Ele Irish Dancers

Sue and Donna are two of the most famous Irish dancers, winners of the Irish Dance World Championships and representatives of the Reels. They always perform in Dublin in the most important clubs alongside traditional folk music groups.
