"Taste" a work of art in Porta Capuana with the Food and Art Tour, cultural and culinary itineraries to discover the city of Naples

Know and discover the characteristics and history of a city and a people by savoring the typical dishes of its cuisine. Visiting the monuments and the artistic and cultural heritage of Naples while tasting traditional dishes is one of the most effective and fascinating ways to explore and get to know it.

This is the starting point of the initiative Food and Art, tourist-gastronomic itinerary which was born with the aim of enhancing our artistic and culinary heritage, organized by the cultural association I Love Porta Capuana. The tasty cultural tours offered are organized in such a way as to to associate each monument with a typical dish of the area where it is tasted.

The tour will take place in the district of Porta Capuana, the most important entrance to the city of Naples in the fifteenth century and still rich in popular traditions, history, culture, art and gastronomy. Guided tours will take place in Saturday and Sunday morning for the entire month of May 2014.

Breakfast | San Giovanni a Carbonara

Guided tour to discover S. Giovanni a Carbonara, considered one of the most beautiful churches in Europe, where it is possible to admire the transition from Gothic to Renaissance. Opposite it will be possible to visit the Ladislao park in Carbonara, an "ortus conclusus" intended for the cultivation of aromatic herbs and fruit trees. A hidden garden in the heart of one of the most chaotic areas of the city.

The route will be enlivened by the tasting of the Baba, the eighteenth-century dish for over three centuries considered the undisputed bulwark of Neapolitan pastry and which finds one of its most traditional and authoritative residences right in Porta Capuana.

A purpo broth in the shade of the cloisters

Il octopus broth it is the true essence of Porta Capuana. An exquisite and inimitable dish flavored with pepper and pieces of boiled fresh octopus and which has its historical roots just beyond the Aragonese walls. Its goodness will be associated with the beauty of monumental complex of S. Caterina in Formello, a church among the most representative expressions of the Renaissance in Naples. The residence has two very particular cloisters, that of the Cedrangoli, the largest, includes the hermitage of the Celestini, the hospice for the sick, the city monastery and the military woolen mill.

Perhaps you do not know what the word is "Pizza" It was pronounced the first time just at Porta Capuana, where the tastiest is undoubtedly the fried pizza. Associated with pizza there will be the guided tour of the Porta, the turreted fifteenth-century arch that delimited the boundaries between the inside and the outside of the city. A fascinating place and indisputable symbol of a turbulent part of the history of Naples, commissioned by Ferrante d'Aragona, overlooks the historic Castel Capuano: royal residence, then noble, court and prison.
