Central Funicular of Naples: the official opening date in July 2017

The Naples Central Funicular finally opens to the public in July 2017!

La Central Funicular of Naples The 22 July 2017 will officially reopen to the public at 12.30.

The works ended on June 30th and, after the necessary testing period and 150 hours of pre-exercise, the Funicular is finely reusable by commuters.

Before the opening of the half, there will be an inaugural race from the Piazza Fuga station with the mayor Luigi De Magistris, the Councilor for Transport Mario Calabrese, the CEO of the Neapolitan Mobility Company Ciro Maglione, the President of the Transport Commission Nino Simeone and the Presidents of the three Municipalities involved.

The Central Funicular is one of the most important cableways in the world for efficiency, safety and transport capacity and is used by 28000 users a day

Work at the Central Funicular: here are the interventions

The review was carried out and ristrutturazione complete of the carriages with repainting, the engine room and the control and command room. Furthermore, they have been completely renew the waiting room and the engine room, the winch, the motors, the control cabin, the handrails, the walking surface, the seat, the components and systems have been replacednetwork.

Plus, now there are modern ones security technologies with wireless system and 80 new cameras closed circuit, for information to customers and for handling and control and plant management. Finally, there are new fire protection systems.

For the users with motor disabilitiesinstead, an elevator was installed at Corso Vittorio Emanuele to replace the stairlift.
Despite these interventions, we report some shortcomings pointed to us by some users: in the Petraio station it was eliminated the stairlift and it has not been replaced with an elevator, so 4 remain ramps of stairs that act as an architectural barrier. Furthermore, there is no public bathroom. We hope that these problems can be resolved as soon as possible.
