Many have entered the Neapolitan tradition, although not all have their roots in our beloved city of Naples.

Usually people gather in houses to celebrate the holidays together, but what are the best Christmas games? Here are some of the most famous that crowd the houses of the Neapolitans during the festive period.

The Tombola

tombola

Let's start with a game that was born in Naples, precisely in the eighteenth century. You almost certainly will not need to know the rules of the note tombolellaIn fact, everyone knows the classic cards full of numbers and the special one panariello from which they will be extracted: each digit has a specific meaning that will usually succeed in making you smile.

  • Players: We recommend that you play 6 people up. There is no precise limit, depending on the number of cards available.
  • Tools required: scoreboard, cards, compass to extract numbers.

Merchant at the fair

Merchant-in-trade

A famous card game that will allow you to become merchants and try to buy the right card. To play the Merchant at the Fair you need two decks of identical cards (one red and one blue), people will have their own cards, while the bank will auction some of the blue ones. Not only will the latter begin to sell the cards, trying to convince players to buy them, but even the latter can exchange them (maybe at great cost) among them! An exciting game that will make the Neapolitans and not just a world entertain.

  • Players: no limit.
  • Tools required: two decks of Merchant cards at the fair (blue and red).

Half past seven

With a simple pack of Neapolitan cards, the famous ones quaranta, you can start and entertain all the guests you invite during the Christmas holidays. A simple and immediate game: we have a desk and participants who will try to challenge it and reach the phantom of the 7 and a half (or at least approach) and, above all, will have to pay attention to not unpack!

  • Players: from 2 to 10 / 12 people.
  • Tools required: simple Neapolitan card deck.

The ace that runs away

asso

We still use the normal Neapolitan cards and here too we have a dealer and participants who will be dealt a single card. Each player, at the start of the game, owns three lives (often three 50-cent coins). The aim is to chase away the so hated at every turn of cards, and avoid losing their lives. Players can exchange the card received from the dealer with the person next to him, not knowing his value, to try to find a highest card. Mind you, the "King" blocks the exchange of cards, while the "Horse" allows you to jump and have the next player exchange the card. They are the two most “coveted” cards in the deck for this game!

The tour ends when the dealer is reached. At each turn he loses who has the lowest card, which will also cost him the loss of a life.

When a player loses all three lives begins the most amusing part of the game because he will be able to recover a life if he will give a talk to one of the participants still in play. In short, the rule is not to talk to the "dead" and the dynamics of the game will continually overturn, until there are only two players left to challenge each other, in a real race to the "downside"!

  • Players: high number.
  • Tools required: simple Neapolitan card deck.

The Sinco

Very often this board game is compared to the tombolain fact, it is quite similar. We have 10 folders and on each will be present 25 Neapolitan cards. The dealer will have a deck of cards and, as a result, will begin to call some. Players can occupy with one chips those that have on their own card.

  • Players: 10 maximum
  • Tools required: board game.
