At the Naples PAN, the exhibition of Helmut Newton, one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century!
From 25 February at 18 June 2017 at PAN, Palazzo Arti Napoli, the exhibition entitled “Helmut Newton. Photos. White Women / Sleepless Nights / Big Nudes ”. The project, carried out by June Newton widow of one of the most famous photographers of the twentieth century and president of the Helmut Newton Foundation was promoted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Naples, in collaboration with Civita Mostre. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication edited by Marsilio.
The exhibition, curated by Matthias Harder and Denis Curti, collects over 200 images taken from the first three books of the photographer published between the end of the seventies and the beginning of the eighties, hence the title of the exhibition. It will be possible to know the evolution of Newton's form and style through “White Women”, “Sleepless Nights” and “Big Nudes”. It will be divided into three sections dedicated to the books from which the photos will be exposed. Let's see them in detail.
White Women
Helmut Newton has published his own first monographic book in 1976 and received the prestigious Kodak Photo Book Award. For the first time the nude and eroticism, through 84 images in color and in black and white, enter the world of fashion and witness the transformation of the role of women in Western society.
Sleepless Nights
This volume, published in the 1978, collects all the work done by Newton for several magazines, including Vogue, and is what made it an icon of fashion photography.
Big Nudes
Newton published this book in the 1981 when he reached the role of protagonist of the late twentieth century photography, inaugurating the blowups, ie the full-length nudes and black and white filmed in the studio with the camera.
