The famous events of Hamlet, Medea, Eurydice and Orpheus, revisited in a contemporary key, accompanied by more current texts such as "The Pride" by Luca Zingaretti on gender identity and "One way" of Erri De Luca on immigration. And, again, the Standard at the San Carlo, A Midsummer Night's Dream at the San Ferdinando e Calderon by Pasolini at the Teatro Nuovo!

Eurydice and Orpheus
The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice reworked by Valeria Parrella in a contemporary key, in a three-part opera directed by Davide Iodice: «I want to leave the word to the Word […] we began to work on a single sound flow, a concertato or a choral, if we want, that would try to restore to the Word its hypnotic, evocative power: its emotion. For the rest, this is a declaration of love ".

The Pride
Luca Zingaretti directs and interprets an enigmatic text built on two separate stories that take place in two different periods: the 1958 and the 2015. But the three protagonists have the same names in both stories and are interpreted by the actors themselves, to evoke a similarity between the events and their personalities. Subjects such as destiny, love, fidelity and forgiveness are investigated. “Because in life, everyone sooner or later, straight and gay, we find ourselves facing the same dilemma: to find out who we really are”.

One way
One way is a text of Erri De Luca on the emergency immigration, which tells of those who face the sea out of desperation, need, hunger and the hope of a better life. In a monologue accompanied by the guitar and the voice of the musician Francesco Sansalone while in the background scroll the images of the Controluce Photojournalistic Agency chosen by the photographer Mario Laporta, which document the travels of illegal migrants.

Medea
On stage at Mercadante the most tragic of the works of Euripides, staged in the 431 BC Medea represents one of the most famous characters of the classical world, for dramatic strength, complexity and expressiveness. For the first time in the Greek theater the protagonist of a tragedy is the violent and ferocious passion of a woman.
Gabriele Lavia directs a contemporary Medea, because “Medea is closer to the essence of theater than any more recent or even current text”.

Decamerone vices, virtues, passions
Marco Baliani brings his scene on stage decamerone for the "Great Italian Project", which also includes Ariosto's Orlando Fuorioso and Machiavelli's Il Principe, interpreted by the great Stefano Accorsi. "A wagon-van is parked on the stage, the “home” and traveling theater of the company that is preparing to stage the opera. Enzo Moscato brings on stage a journey in search of a lost identity inside the ruins of history and a daily earthquake, physically and metaphysically. Scannasurice it is a sort of descent to the "underworld", after the 80 earthquake, of a character with androgynous identity, in the Neapolitan hypogeum where he lives, metaphor of the Neapolitans themselves, and the ghosts of Neapolitan metropolitan legends, from Bella 'Mbriana to Munaciello.

Calderon
Francesco Saporano mixes Castilian and Neapolitan dialect in Calderon di Pier Paolo Pasolini, whose drama, ideally inspired by The life is dream of Calderón de la Barca, sets the action in Spain, at the time of Francoism. The masterpiece is the background to the story Las Meninas by Velazquez, an ambiguous and overbearing painting that refers to the author's deep relationship with the figurative arts.
