Madama Butterfly at the San Carlo Theater in Naples: here is the program

The wonderful Teatro San Carlo in Naples will host from 12 to 28 September 2023 the special appointment withopera “Madama Butterfly” by Giacomo Puccini, directed by Ferzan Ozpetek.

This is the opera in three acts with a libretto by Giuseppe Giocosa and Luigi Illica, defined as a "Japanese tragedy" and dedicated by Puccini himself to the Queen of Italy Elena of Montenegro.

For the first time it was performed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, in February 1904, and the opera tells the passionate and tormented story between the fifteen year old Cio Cio-San and U.S. Navy lieutenant Pinkerton.

Ferzan Ozpetek created this production in 2019 and with these new appointments with Madama Butterfly he will inaugurate the autumn opera season of Massimo Napoletano. Here is the schedule of appointments.
