A particular novelty in Naples: The 2021 World Mollusk Award is awarded to the Argonauta Octopus of the Gulf of Naples!

The World Mollusk Award is an award instituted by the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum in Frankfurt and this year's winner was the Octopus Argonauta from the Gulf of Naples.

Defined the most romantic clam in the world, the Argonauto argo prevailed over the other four finalists by winning the prize, Or the genome sequencing by the LOEWE Center for Translational Biodiversity Genomics (TBG).

The clam had been a candidate since marine biologist Fabio Crocetta of the zoological station Anton Dohrn of Naples, who had been the one to notice the wonderful specimen during a routine analysis of the ancillary species in fishing for bluefish in our gulf.

So immediately the idea of ​​nominating the mollusk for the 2021 World Mollusk Award and through one public vote closed on January 31st got 7888 votes, well 2000 more than the runner-up.
