Completely unexpected, the news of the closure of the Nazareth Institute in Vomero, in Naples, the private school owned by the religious congregation of the Ladies of Nazareth.

The school is located on Kagoshima Street, in the hilly district of the city, is in business since 1956 and there didn't seem to be any major problems, but obviously something was wrong.

Apparently, the decision was made because of the arrears that the company that manages the school had towards the religious congregation.

Il dean, in the presence of the many parents who presented themselves disappointed and angry in front of the door of the institute, could not help but communicate theinevitability of closure despite the efforts made to counter it.

What will happen to students and workers?

Naturally parents wonder where their children can be transferred after this decision. The school, an all-encompassing institution that has always welcomed students from kindergarten to high school, welcomes 500 students and dozens of workers and now their future is uncertain.

Families will have to search new institutions that are up to par of the same training offer, costs and location. Time, however, is short and it will certainly not be an easy choice. Of course, they will most likely have the clearance to change schools, but looking for alternatives in the height of summer will be very difficult.

The workers, between teachers, porters and external collaborators at the moment they have lost your job and it is not known what future they may have.

The financial distress

As mentioned, it seems that the reason is the arrears towards the Dame di Nazareth religious congregation and the institute is in financial distress. Families, however, wonder what happened to their money considering that every year they pay thousands of euros in tuition for the education of their children and minimum fee is 3300 euros per year.

According to what we read from Repubblica, the company that manages the institute would not pay the rent for years and would be in debt of 258 thousand euros.

Gianna Staiano, mother of a first grade pupil and a lawyer, immediately wrote one note now shared by hundreds of parents and also on social networks:

It closes in the general silence of the local institutions, the Curia, the Ministry of Education and under the eyes of those bodies that were supposed to guarantee and promote the right to study in the school chosen by almost 500 students. This guilty silence is mainly attributable to the management of Il Maestro srl-Social Enterprise that, contrary to any and all duty of correctness, diligence and good faith, it has never communicated to its members the hypothesis of closure as a direct consequence of the serious financial distress and of the deteriorated relationship with the Congregation ”.

The request to the Municipality of Naples to avert the closure

Meanwhile, Enza Amato, president of the Naples City Council, and Walter Savarese, president of the Budget Council Commission, have asked for a intervention to institutions to avoid closure, sending a note to the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, the councilor at the school of the Campania Region Lucia Fortini, the general director of the regional school office Ettore Acerra and the director of the VI office for the territorial area of Naples Luisa Franzese.

A response is expected in the coming days, hoping that the situation will change for the many families, students and workers involved.
