The Carminiello Church in Toledo in Naples reopens with an exhibition: a true architectural jewel

Right in the heart of the city of Naples, in Toledo, there is an architectural jewel, we are talking about the Carminiello Church, which finally becomes accessible to the public from 2 September 2022. The church, in fact, which is managed by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, had been closed for several years.

A special exhibition by the artist will also be inaugurated for the occasion Bill Viola entitled Back to life that you can visit up to 8 January 2023. In particular, there will be five video-works on display belonging to the artist, namely:

  • Earth Martyr
  • Air Martyr
  • Fire Martyr 
  • Water Martyr
  • Three Women 

The exhibition is promoted byArchconfraternity of the Congregation of 63 Priests, which made the Carminiello Church available to host the event. For all information about the event, pre-registration on the site is active, you can also be notified about the pre-sale of tickets.

Who is Bill Viola

Bill Viola is an Italian-American artist, born in 1951 in Queens. Always passionate about art, in 1969 he enrolled in the art faculty of Syracuse University, and approached the world of video-art.

At the center of his works are human experiences such as birth, death, the development of consciousness and they have their roots in Eastern and Western philosophy and culture. Furthermore, in his works a central and recurring element is water.

The artist is very attached to it, as it reminds him of a truly singular event. In fact, at the age of six during a vacation he risks dying by drowning falling into a lake, he is promptly saved by his uncle, Bill describes this experience as "the most beautiful of her life, peaceful and fearless ".
