Friday April 29 2022, on the island of Procida, Italian Capital of Culture 2022, an unmissable event will take place, i.e. at 10:30 there will be an appointment of collective co-creation and at 12:00 The Paper Fleet will cross the Gulf of Naples with the slogan Children will save the world.
The 9 meter long origami boat
In particular, a fleet of 2022 paper boats, these are origami that were made by the students of the Island of Procida and Campi Flegrei with eco-sustainable materials, it will symbolically cross the wonderful Gulf of Naples. It will be a very special initiative that wants to bring to light temi important like that of reception and integration.
At the head of this wonderful fleet, on a large one 9 meters long paper craft boat for two and a half widths there will be Frank Bolter. This boat was built by the children together with resident citizens and temporary citizens in an open air work shop.
Subsequently, the boats will be recovered by the volunteers and by environmental associations of the territory. Students from the Capraro di Procida Comprehensive Institute, as well as students from Pozzuoli, Monte di Procida and Bacoli will also be involved.
Departures from Naples and Pozzuoli
This event also includes the departure of many other boats from Campi Felgrei and itself from the Island of Procida thanks to the workshops carried out by more than 2022 students. Pupils will vary 2022 paper boats in 8 different points of the Phlegraean Fields and from the island of Procida:
- Beach of the Port of Pozzuoli (in front of the Macellum - Temple of Serapis)
- Monachelle beach, Pozzuoli
- Lucrino beach, Pozzuoli
- Acquamorta beach, Monte di Procida
- Miseno beach, Bacoli
- Torregaveta beach, Monte di Procida
- Baia beach, area next to the port, Bacoli
- La Lingua beach, Procida
The artist Frank Bolter
Frank Bolter is a German artist known for his passion for building very large paper boats. Indeed, his performance along the Rhine river is famous, when he asked passers-by to help him cross the river on a paper boat, a mission that was possible, in fact the boat did not sink.
His shows are titled To the World's End and enclose a great symbolic value. The artist says he is enthusiastic about the idea of having children with him because "they are the future".
Agostino Riitano, director of Procida 2022, expressed his thoughts on the event of April 29, here are his words:
Bölter will try to cross the Procida canal with this fragile boat, aware of the fact that it will never be able to reach the other side, bringing the many journeys that are not sure of a safe landing back to the center of the community's reflection.
