Surely you will all remember the Venus of Rags, the great work of the Italian artist, painter and sculptor Michelangelo Pistoletto which dominated last year Piazza Municipio in Naples. Following a disastrous fire on 12 July 2023, the work was completely destroyed, an episode that aroused indignation among both citizens and the administration.

It is precisely for this reason that on 6 March 2024 una will return to Piazza Municipio new and great version of Venus of the Rags by Michelangelo Pistoletto. The great work will remain in Naples for a period of 3 months and will then be moved elsewhere.

What is The Venus of Rags

The Venus of Rags is a large work almost 10 meters high and is a plaster copy of the Venus de Milo. The large plaster statue is covered and surrounded by colored rags donated by the Neapolitans to symbolize the contrast between classicism and modernity.

The work is part of the project Contemporary Naples 2023, an initiative thanks to which many exhibitions and installations designed specifically for public spaces and museum sites have been organized in the city.
