As part of the Maggio dei Monumenti 2015, unmissable events and shows at the church of San Giuseppe delle Scalze
Throughout the month of May of the 2015 Monuments, the non-profit association Archintorno organized, every Saturday, guided tours, shows and events at the church of San Giuseppe Le Scalze, at Salita Pontecorvo in Naples.
The church, built in 1619, initially belonged to the Teresian Nuns and later passed to the Barnabite Fathers. Cosimo Fanzago then built the double-sided, creating a space in front of the churchyard with a steep slope.
The building consists of an entrance with regular openings, which lead inside where there are statues of San Pietro d'Alcantara and Santa Teresa. Further on there is the choir loft and beyond the façade we find a raised atrium, with vaulted rooms that house the bodies of the religious of the convent.
Once the church was embellished by a painting by Luca Giordano, the Joseph and Jesus, and two works by Francesco Di Maria, the Calvary and Santa Teresa and San Pietro d'Alcantara, currently preserved in the museum of San Martino.
Over time he suffered thefts and desecrations as well extensive damage caused by the terrible earthquake of the 1980, whose sign are still visible.
The guided tour wants to make known the history and will be accompanied by interesting events.
