The PAN of Naples hosts an exhibition dedicated to the director Mario Monicelli with unpublished photos and illustrations of the companion Rap
On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the great Italian director Mario Monicelli, PAN of Naples will host an exhibition in his honor organized by the HDE Association, curated by the architect Francesca di Transo and promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Naples, with the patronage of the Mayor.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on 24 June 2015 in the Conference Room of the PAN, but will be open to the public dfrom 3 July to 1 August 2015. The inauguration is like a national premiere also thanks to the collaboration of Monicelli's lifelong companion, Chiara Rapaccini, a well-known illustrator.
The exhibition
The exhibition collects material for the first time put on display and that helps us to walk the history of twentieth century cinema. It will be possible to admire 80 unpublished photos taken on the sets of Monicelli's films and a series of works by Chiara Rapaccini (aka Rap).
Through the photographs you will also discover off-scene interesting and entertaining on the biggest ones Italian actors like Vittorio Gassman, Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Anna Magnani, Totò, Monica Vitti, Giancarlo Giannini and many others. The sets will be the historical ones of "My friends", "A small little bourgeois", "L'Armata Brancaleone", "We hope you are female", among others.
Rap's works
The exhibition of Rap is a further homage to Monicelli. They will be exhibited 17 works by the artist, who worked in acrylic on as many photographs from the director's personal archive. His personal interpretation of the shots that go from the 50 years to the 80 years give an extra touch to the exhibition as through his particular touch, the comments, the brush strokes, the thoughts, the actors and the director himself seem to re-emerge and communicate with the visitor.
Her drawings they are also the basis from which Chiara Rapicelli has created large sheets that will be on show in the Venice Casino from September.
Other events in tribute to Monicelli
Mario Monicelli will also receive other tributes. The Metropolitan Cinema of Chiaia will project free some of his films that made the Italian comedy famous all over the world ..
Furthermore, from 11 July to 4 September, the Charterhouse of San Giacomo di Capri, in the Chiesa delle Donne, will host 50 of the photographs on display in Naples.
